To stay in balance, we need to be aligned with (or against) the forces acting on our body. This continuously requires movements like Counterbalancing and Coiling or Counteraction as the forces acting on the body change.

Alignment can also refer to setting up the boots, see Ski boot setup.

Maintaining alignment via these movements is continuous... and as we pick up our speed and become more and more dynamic, the more these movements become about anticipating the alignment needs of each turn.
