Here are some guidelines for taking video for ski movement analysis:

  • film the skier from the front, side and from behind
  • at least 5 turns from the front and 5 from behind
  • do not fill the viewfinder with the skier, fill about 1/2 - 3/4 or you'll lose the skier sometimes
  • keep following the skier and zooming in/out to keep the skier in that area of the viewfinder

Here's a sample video run, although the skier got too close to the camera for a good lateral view:



More novel approaches include following the skier with a GoPro or similar camera. This is very useful, as it conveys a different point of view:



Drones are especially useful on race course.
